Description:

**Originally Listed At $350**

North or West Africa, Tuareg/French Touareg, ca. early 20th century CE. An attractive pair of hand-carved wooden pillow supports or utility hooks from the nomadic Tuareg who have traditionally inhabited the Sahara (regions of Algeria, Libya, Niger, Nigeria, Mauritania, Mali, and Burkina Faso). The Tuareg speak a Berber dialect and are oftentimes called "blue men" because of the blue robes that they wear. Each of these staffs is capped by a zoomorphic "head" with pointed 'horns' and one presents rectangular iron plates (perhaps representing veils as the Tuareg wear veils) across each side of the 'face' featuring nails that resemble eyes. Linear and cross-hatched details are meticulously incised throughout. Size: each one measures ~ 22.5" H (57.2 cm)
