John Edward Borein (American, 1872-1943), 2 drawings of horses, Cofradilla, 1898, each signed, inscribed and dated. Two sketches of horses by Edward Borein, one of the original cowboy artists. Borein's artwork captures the heart and soul of the American West, and he aimed to reflect the true West in his compositions. Borein famously stated, "I will leave only an accurate picture of the West, nothing else but that. If anything isn't authentic or just right, I won't put it in any of my work." Born in the American West, Edward Borein spent his youth roaming around the western states and territories as well as Mexico, both working as a cowboy and recording this world in his art. His studio was a favorite destination for the likes of Will Rogers, Charles Russell, and Buffalo Bill Cody. Size: 11.5" W x 8" H (29.2 cm x 20.3 cm); 18" W x 16" H (45.7 cm x 40.6 cm) with mats.
