Description:

North America, Alaska, ca. 1896 CE. A pair of near-identical hooks used to catch salmon, each made of a piece of supple wood curved into tight ovoids with open sides, one of which terminates in a hook, the other of which terminates with tightly wrapped rattan holding a sharpened deer bone spike pointed inward, ready to pierce the mouth of any fish that swims into the lure and then tries to escape. Each is tied tightly with thin, woven string, keep the ovoid form of the wood in place. Utilitarian, but beautiful. Accompanied by a handwritten note of description from the 1920s. Size: 6.5" W x 3.85" H (16.5 cm x 9.8 cm); 11.75" H (29.8 cm) on included custom stand.
