Description:

Near East, Iran, Persian Empire, ca. 18th century CE. A fine matched pair of beautiful horseman clubs, each with a cylindrical wooden handle, a discoid hand guard, and a rounded pommel. A lengthy iron rod is fitted into the opening of each handle, and a segmented melon-shaped mace head is attached onto the upper end. Horse-back soldiers would wield clubs like these examples as a means of quickly dispatching of any foot soldier they rode past. The wide, spherical head mitigated the chance of the rider missing his intended mark, and the heft meant that the rider would not have to turn around to finish the job. Wonderful green and brown patina envelops each weapon, and the wooden handles boast caramel-hued patina. Size of each: 22.125" L x 4.75" W (56.2 cm x 12.1 cm).
