Central Asia, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, Turkmen (Turkoman) culture, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. An intricate ceremonial child's tunic made of a patchwork of textiles panels hand-sewn with dangling tassels, glass beads, cowrie shells, nickel-brass repousse appliques, and pendants inlaid with glass. The textiles are a patchwork of vibrant patterned cotton which are almost completely obscured by the attached ornaments. Children would wear these open sided garments over their clothing, the talismans providing protection from misfortune and the evil eye. Size: 17" L x 18" W (43.2 cm x 45.7 cm); 23.5" H (59.7 cm) on included custom stand.
