Central Asia, Turkmenistan / Afghanistan, Turkmen (Turkoman) culture, ca. late 20th century CE. A child's tunic made from cotton panels patched together with extensive brass and beaded ornaments covering the surface of both sides. There are coins, plastic and shell buttons, as well as string tassels, and embroidery. The majority of the attached ornaments are brass, however there are 2 diamond shaped gilt-brass pendants with 12% to 18% gold! The talismans on these ornate tunics protected the child against the evil eye and misfortune. Coins date to the 1970s and late 1980s.   • Condition: Some fraying to edges and lower hems of cloth. Patina and dark toning to the brass ornaments. Pitting and indentations to the bells and other appliques. Pulls to threads and tassels, but overall great condition.
