Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Tumaco La Tolita culture, ca. 350 BCE to 350 CE. A terracotta head, likely of a cacique, a dignitary or tribal leader, with an expressive visage comprised of almond-shaped eyes, a prominent nose, large ears, gently smiling lips, and a tall, rounded headdress or coiffure. A lovely piece from the Tumaco La Tolita culture. Size: 2" W x 2.25" H (5.1 cm x 5.7 cm); 4" H (10.2 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired before 2000.
