Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Northern Europe, Viking / Norse culture, ca. 9th to 11th century CE. A trio of cast bronze belt buckles, each made from a cast piece with lightly incised decoration, and with a thin prong wrapped around one side. Many surviving examples of Viking trousers have belt loops and the belt seems to have been an integral part of Viking attire. However, it could sometimes be to their detriment - for example, in the saga "Bardar saga Snaefellsass", written in the early 14th century, there is a description of a fight where one man's trousers belt snaps and, as he clutches at the trousers to hold them up, his foe deals him a death blow. Size of largest: 1.5" W x 1.6" H (3.8 cm x 4.1 cm)
