Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Manabi Province, Jama Coaque, ca. 300 BCE - 2300 CE. Molded terracotta head with finely delineated features; large eyes, brows, naturalistic nose and mouth, puffy cheeks and neatly coiffed hairdo. Custom, wood-block stand. Head itself measures 1 1/2" long x 1 1/4" wide. Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Huastec, ca. 250-450 CE. The two others in this ensemble are Huastec examples, each nicely modeled, one wearing an elaborate headdress and ear spools, the other with a naturalistic visage, donning an fanciful coiffure. Custom, wood-block stands. Heads measure 1 3/4" long x 1 1/8" wide and 1 1/4" long x 1 1/4" wide respectively. Provenance: Ex-Adeon Gallery, Chicago, IL, acquired prior to 1970.
