Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, Mayan Territories, ca. 500 to 900 CE. A trio of pottery bowls from the heart of the Maya period, all brightly painted; the largest has a register of glyphs. Size of largest: 6.75" W x 3.5" H (17.1 cm x 8.9 cm)

The shallowest bowl has a lustrous red interior and a design on the exterior that resembles matching wide eyes opposite one other. The largest has a similar red band around its rim; its interior is a solid, pale orange, and around its exterior, is a register of glyphs that may list a person's name and title. The third has a buff interior, but on the exterior, a thick band of glossy red paint marks the rim, with a thin black ring below that, and a series of ovoid patterns in the same red pigment splayed outward like flower petals rising from the base.
