Description:

Jon Zahourek (American, b. 1940). Three bronze reliefs, ca. 1960s to 1980s. All are artist's proofs. All are signed and identified A.P. (artist proof) on lower edge. Three stunning bronze reliefs of nude women by American artist Jon Zahourek. Zahourek rendered these sensual ladies in dramatic poses with expressive arms and flowing hair, each one exuding sexuality. These powerful reliefs, all square in form, are skillfully modeled in bas relief. In addition to this titillating theme, Zahourek's artistry and passion for his process is palpable. Zahourek himself has described his creative method as somewhat organic and dissociative. In his words, "Paintings and drawings and sculpture were all a surprise. The kinesthetic mind was doing the artwork, not the conscious mind." Size of each: 9.875" L x 9.75" W (25.1 cm x 24.8 cm)

In the 1960s, Jon Zahourek dropped out of college to become an artist. By way of Taos, New Mexico and later Denver, Colorado Zahourek was part of a thriving community of artists, exhibiting his work with prominent contemporaries including Ned Jacobs, Buffalo Kaplinski, George Carlson, and Fritz White. In the 1970s, Zahourek moved to New York to teach painting. He continued as an artist and educator, and eventually fueled his passion for anatomy into developing a system for teaching anatomy which has been used by more than 6,000 classrooms across the United States.
