Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A lovely triad of cream-slip pottery female figures, with characteristically attenuated limbs, bulging breasts, rounded shoulders, and wide hips. These figurines are referred to as "sheepface" figures due to their elongated heads, pointed ears, thin mouths, almond-shaped eyes, and (most notably) the large protruding noses. Each figure wears a large headband and disc-shaped earspools; two figures have applied shoulder adornments, and one has two small shoulder adornments, a loincloth, and a beaded necklace painted in white. A tantalizing triumvirate for any collection! Size of largest: 5" H (12.7 cm).

Provenance: private Stagecoach, Nevada, USA collection; acquired from 1985 to present from galleries such as Arte Primitivo, Art For Eternity, Butterfields, and Riverbend Gallery
