Description:

Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Nicoya culture, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A trio of painted pottery vessels, each with fun details. The smallest is round-bodied, polychrome in red, cream, and black, with a coffee-bean featured face projecting from the upper shoulder of the the vessel and a wide flared neck and rim. The second is a low bowl with a rolled rim, painted a dark red on base, rim, and interior; around the middle of the exterior is a design of low bumps. The third is a small tripod vessel, echoing the form of the smallest vessel with a bulbous body and wide, flaring rim; it echoes the decoration of the other vessel with red on the interior, rim, and lower body. Above each tripod leg is a small applied monkey, posed as if they are holding onto a vine in the jungle, heads turned to face the viewer. Size: 4" W x 3.9" H (10.2 cm x 9.9 cm)
