Ancient Near East, Canaan, the Levant, ca. late 2nd to early 1st millennium BCE. Three cast-bronze, chisel-form axe heads with slender butt ends, thick bodies, and flared blade edges. One axe head displays a dark-brown patina across all surfaces, and the other two are enveloped in a palette of patina colors including russet, emerald, citrine, turquoise, and beige. These axe heads would have been used to shape any number of substances including wood, softer metals, or bone. Size of longest: 4.875" L (12.4 cm).

Provenance: ex-estate of John Piscopo, San Diego, California, USA. Mr. Piscopo was one of the largest collectors of ancient weapons in the US with a collection that spanned all cultures, all ages.
