Description:

Latin America, Mexico, dated December 14, 1961 CE. A lovely painted tin ex voto featuring a kneeling woman presenting a candle to the Virgin of San Juan floating upon a cloud in the celestial realm above. The translation of the text below is as follows: "In the month of August of 1959 Senora Maria Guadalupe Moreno had surgery, and with all her faith and heart appealed to the Virgin of San Juan to intercede on her behalf, and God answered her request by saving her from a grave situation. Today she gives infinite thanks for such a portentious miracle, making her gratitude public by means of this retablo carried out in this form with her promise and for bettering the confusion of the unbelieving. Cortazar, Gto (short for Guanajuato), December 14, 1961." A beautiful example of this religious folk art genre! Size: 10" x 7" (25.4 x 17.8 cm).
