Description:

Ancient Near East, southern Mesopotamia, Umma (modern Djokha), reign of Ibbi-Sin, ca. 2028 to 2004 BCE. A small terracotta administrative tablet of a rectangular form with planar peripheries and lightly-convex faces. The tablet features fourteen lines of cuneiform text, which is impressed using a sharpened reed or stick just before being placed inside a kiln, as well as an official stamped seal along one lateral side. When translated, the script on the tablet records the numbers of fattened sheep in the year and that, "The priest of Inanna was chosen with the goat in Uruk." Size: 1.4" W x 1.7" H (3.6 cm x 4.3 cm).
