Walter Thomas "Tom" Grice (American, 1943-2011). Oil on canvas, ca. 2000. Signed "T. Grice" on lower right. A wonderful painting of a Native American riding a beautiful brown and white horse by American artist Tom Grice. The brave wields a long spear and carries a quiver as well as a drum decorated with a horned bull head motif across his body. Though bare-chested, he dons hide leg coverings and a grand pectoral. The horse's back is covered with a voluminous wool blanket boasting vibrant hues of magenta with black trim. Gazing out toward the viewer with a serious expression, the man's visage is crowned by a feathered headdress atop centrally-parted hair with braids falling well past his shoulders. Grice rendered the western landscape, replete with desert brush and big sky, in shades of azure, peach, lavender, sienna, and sage - a brilliant color palette inspired by the Taos School. A mesmerizing painting set in an attractive wood frame by Western artist Tom Grice. Born in Lake Charles, Louisiana,Tom Grice was a longtime resident of Groves, Texas. He was an exceptional artist as well as a beloved barber who owned The Studio in Groves. In addition, Grice was a respected US Army veteran.

- Condition: Painting is signed "T. Grice" on lower right and is in overall excellent condition. Frame has a few minor scuffs but is otherwise very nice, wired for suspension, and ready to display.
