Pre-Columbian, Valley of Mexico, Tlatilco culture, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A particularly graceful and elegant redware vessel with an apple-shaped body that tapers to an annular base, and a tall cylindrical spout above a lightly flanged shoulder. Atop the extended spout, the circular rim flares slightly inward. Boasting a high burnish over a vibrant hue of sienna, this lovely vessel is a remarkable example from the ancient Tlatilco peoples. Size: 6.25" W x 11.25" H (15.9 cm x 28.6 cm)

Provenance: ex-private collection of the late Father Bader, University of St. Thomas, Houston, Texas, USA, exhibited in the University of St. Thomas Art Gallery, acquired prior to 2000

  • Condition: Collection number written on base in black pigment. Neck and rim have been repaired from several pieces with break lines barely visible on interior. Indentation to base. Expected minor nicks to surface in areas commensurate with age. Otherwise, excellent with vibrant pigment and lovely age cracks to paint.
