Description:

Pre-Columbian, Valley of Mexico, Tlatilco, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A collection of 3 'pretty lady' figures that represent fertility, presenting ample hips indicative of childbearing as well as attenuated arms, perky breasts, a slender waist, and voluptuous buttocks. Tlapacoya, a major archaeological site related to the Tlatilco people, is at the foot of the Tlapacoya volcano, south of Mexico City. The most famous finds at the site are small human figures like these, but their use is ambiguous. Were they funerary figures, made to be placed into graves to represent rebirth? Toys intended for girls to symbolize the ideal woman? The mystery of these figures adds to their intrigue! Size: 3.25" L x 1.25" W (8.3 cm x 3.2 cm); 3" H (7.6 cm) on included custom stand.
