Description:

Pre-Columbian, Valley of Mexico, Tlatilco, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A hand-built pottery Venus figure of an attractive form standing atop delineated legs. The nude woman presents with broad hips, perky breasts, attenuated arms, and sloped shoulders that taper inward to form the wide neck. Her elongated head bears coffee-bean-shaped eyes, a slender nose above thin lips, tab-shaped ears, and thin eyebrows, all beneath a tall forehead and striated cap adorned with applied 'shells.' Size: 2.375" W x 5" H (6 cm x 12.7 cm); 5.3" H (13.5 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-private L. Kalina collection, California, acquired in 1970

  • Condition: Head, both arms, and lower body reattached to restored central body, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Abrasions to limbs and head, with softening to some facial details, and light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
