Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, Valley of Mexico, Tlatilco, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A fine, hand-built pottery seated female figure with outstretched legs, a portly abdomen with a delineated navel, broad shoulders, and bent arms, one of which is holding a small vessel. The thick neck supports the wide, flat head which is presented with impressed eyes, a wide nose, large ear spools, and a smooth brow, all beneath a rough-textured coiffure. Traces of the original pale-red slip remain and gives this figure an appearance evocative of ancient West Mexico. Size: 2.1" W x 3.375" H (5.3 cm x 8.6 cm).

Provenance: private Southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
