Description:

Central Asia, Tibet, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A wooden phubra, also known as a ritual "magic dagger," crafted in the traditional 3-sided stake form, with a cotton cord wrapped around the neck. The pommel features four anthropomorphic faces and an attached metal chain and a tin panel wrapped around the wooden tip. The phurba's design originates from an ancient Vedic tool used to pin down sacrifices. The three segments of the blade symbolize the phurba's power to subdue the "three poisons" of negative energy: attachment, aversion, and ignorance. Additionally, these segments are believed to represent the three spirit worlds, which the phurba unites through its ritual use. Size: 11.6" L x 1.5" W (29.5 cm x 3.8 cm)
