Central Asia, Tibet, ca. 19th century CE. A lovely mechak, a flint fire starter pouch with an outer leather bag covered in silvered and gilded bronze floral appliques. A large, oval turquoise bead is in the center of the bag on one side. The bag is made to contain rocks for striking the flint surface. The flint surface is underneath the bag and hangs below it in a crescent shape. A heavy bronze loop at the top of the bag has a brass ring attached to a leather strap. Size: 5.45" W x 3.1" H (13.8 cm x 7.9 cm)
