Pre-Columbian, Chile, San Pedro, Atacama Desert, Tiahuanaco (Tiwanaku), ca. 1000 to 1250 CE. A hand-carved hardwood scoop used for preparing and ingesting hallucinogenic drugs. The scoop end features a shallow receptacle, and the handle end is decorated with a stylized avian figure. Smooth patina has developed over the surfaces. Size: 13.125" L x 0.4" W x 1" H (33.3 cm x 1 cm x 2.5 cm); 6.125" H (15.6 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-private West Virginia, USA collection, acquired in the late 1960s to early 1970s, thence by descent
