Native American, Northwestern United States, Alaska, Thule, Pre-Contact or Punuk stage, ca. 800 to 1400 CE: & Inuit, Post-Contact period, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A collection of 7 ancient and antique artifacts from the Alaska region including 2 ulu knives, polishing stone, a stone adze or axe head, and 3 bone harpoon heads. The smaller ulu knife might be pre-contact period and is made from a sharpened stone slotted into a bone grip. The other ulu is post-European contact, made with an iron blade and bone handle attached via iron nails. The harpoon heads are hand-carved from bone (possibly walrus ivory, but too weathered to identify), made during the Punuk pre-contact period. The adze and polishing stone are also probably date to the 19th century or earlier. Size of iron ulu: 6" L x 4.25" W (15.2 cm x 10.8 cm)

- Condition: Stone ulu blade is repaired with adhesive infill along a crack, chips to blade. Other ulu is intact with patina to blade and bone. Chips and old losses to adze blade. Heavy wear and losses to harpoon blades from exposure.
