Description:

Native American, North America, Eastern Woodland, ca. 200 to 1000 CE. A fine set of hand-carved stone axe blades of varying lengths. The smallest, made from a dark-gray stone, has a tubular handle and an sharpened blade edge. The medium-sized tool - perhaps meant for knapping flint and other hard materials - is made from a mottled dark-brown stone and resembles an elongated teardrop with a smooth conical handle. The largest stone, blue-gray in color, has a smooth topside, a planar base, and a curved blade edge. Created for a variety of different uses, this is a wonderful group of ancient Native American tools! Size of largest (slanted blade edge): 2.75" W x 9.25" H (7 cm x 23.5 cm).

Provenance: private Boulder, Colorado, USA collection; ex-collection of the late John Piscopo, San Diego, California, USA
