Description:

Pre-Columbian, Guerrero Mexico, ca. 300 BCE. A pair of greenstone and one black stone objects, all shaped like proto examples of the famous hand axe figures from this area but with highly abstract shapes and little to demonstrate their meaning. The most triangular has a tiny drill mark on one side; all have singular large grooves around their middles. These may be test pieces for more complex sculptures. Size of largest: 3.25" W x 5.5" H (8.3 cm x 14 cm)

Provenance: Ex-Paul Simon collection, Taos, NM acquired before 1985
