Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay culture, ca. 1200 to 1450 CE. A delightful trio of standing pottery figures from Chancay culture, the 2 shortest adorned in pigments and the largest left bare. First, the most petite presents as a lord or shaman wearing a rounded headdress above bulging eyes and a triangular nose, while holding arms to his chest. Posed similarly, the mid-size figure displays simian characteristics with a rounded snout, broad nostrils, and huge, protruding ears. Last, the largest figure holds arms outwards from a rotund belly with a concave navel. An incised loincloth hangs at his waist as his stylized visage displays a petite, open mouth, swollen eyes, and a pinched nose, all beneath a conical headdress and flanked by sizable ears. Size of largest: 2.3" L x 4.2" W x 8.1" H (5.8 cm x 10.7 cm x 20.6 cm)
