Pre-Columbian, North Coast of Peru, Moche, ca. 300 to 800 CE; Central Coast of Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 to 1200 CE; Northern Peru, Inca, ca. 1200 to 1532 CE. A trio of hand-built pottery sculptures - 2 vessels and 1 figure - from ancient Peru. The Moche vessel features a seated man with arms folded atop his chest, and the Chancay figure presents nude with a tall forehead and vibrant painted decorations. The largest vessel hails from the Inca Empire and features an abstract, black-painted creature around each lug handle. Size of largest (Inca vessel): 4.125" L x 4.4" W x 5.5" H (10.5 cm x 11.2 cm x 14 cm)

Provenance: private Ojai, California, USA collection, by inheritance, collected before 2000

  • Condition: Repair to rim of Inca vessel and one foot of Chancay figure; Moche vessel is intact. All artifacts have light abrasions and fading to pigment, with minor earthen deposits, and some expected surface wear, otherwise in great condition. Nice preservation to overall forms. Moche and Chancay artifacts have handwritten notes in pencil beneath their respective bases.
