Description:

Latin America, Mexico or Guatemala, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A trio of hand-carved wood masks, each presenting an anthropomorphic visage with openwork slits above the eyes for the wearer to see, all adorned in hand-painted pigments. The largest and most vibrant exhibits a lustrous finish, a centrally-parted coiffure, slightly-parted lips, and blushing cheeks. The next shows a row of carved teeth and a moustache. The last possibly represents a demon as it is enveloped in red paint and features an upturned nose and a projecting chin or beard. Size of largest: 7" W x 8.5" H (17.8 cm x 21.6 cm)
