Description:

Southeast Asia, Thailand, Sawankhalok (Si Satchanalai), ca. 15th century CE. A lovely pottery vessel in the form of a horse, displaying a bulbous body, narrow neck, and a flared rim, all sitting upon a ring-form foot. The charming creature presents a naturalistic head featuring a long snout, almond-shaped eyes, perky ears, and an incised mane, while a flowing tail protrudes from the animal's posterior. Coated in a rich blue glaze, the horse is adorned with a vertically striated band that encompasses the necks of the animal and the vessel, as well as 4 risen floral motifs across the body. Size: 3.5" in diameter x 2.75" H (8.9 cm x 7 cm)

Provenance: ex Ashland University Museum, Ashland, Ohio, USA, donated to Ashland University between July 1994 to December 1998
