Description:

Southeast Asia, Thailand, Hmong culture, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. This velvet cloth jacket is beautifully embroidered with needlepoint and applique star patches. It is adorned with over 100 coins and dangling glass beads, creating a visually striking piece. Collected from the Hmong Thai people in the hills around Chiang Mai, Thailand, the jacket features ten-cent French Indochina coins minted in the 1930s. These coins are pierced through the top and suspended on beaded strands; remnants from the federation of French colonial territories that influenced much of Southeast Asia during the early 20th century CE. Size (measured at the shoulders): 18" L x 16" W (45.7 cm x 40.6 cm); 23" H (58.4 cm) on the included custom stand.
