Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Michoacan or Jalisco, Teuchitlan / Shaft Tomb cultures, 400 to 600 CE. A lovely hand built pottery bowl with a flared rim and stucco patterning used by the people in West Mexico and shaft tomb cultures. The painstaking technique to create the patterns is sometimes referred to as "pseudo-cloisonne" since the stucco is so flush and looks inlaid within the pottery. The surface is stucco painted with geometric motifs and abstract forms in creamy beige and green-blue hues. This type of pottery shows strong Teotihuacan influence and is often misidentified as being from the Valley of Mexico. Size: 9.5" Diameter x 3.5" H (24.1 cm x 8.9 cm)

Provenance: private Charlotte, North Carolina, USA collection; ex-Arte Primitivo, New York City, New York, USA, acquired in July, 2018; ex-private Nevada collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection Arkansas, USA 1950s to 1960s.
