Description:

Pre-Columbian, Valley of Mexico, Teotihuacan, ca. 3rd to 7th century CE. A fine bowl carved from a creamy peach and white colored stone with tall walls, a deep basin, and thick walls, all supported atop a trio of characteristic nubbin feet. This bowl may have at one time held a lid to further preserve various dry goods stored within. This style of tripodal vessel originated in the Teotihuacan metropolis and spread to other Mesoamerican cultures by trade and were recreated in both stone and pottery. The lovely, mottled stone is known as tecali, sometimes incorrectly referred to as "Mexican onyx," that closely resembles a calcite stone like alabaster and valued for the naturally beautiful coloration. Size: 5.375" Diameter x 4" H (13.7 cm x 10.2 cm)
