Description:

Pre-Columbian, Valley of Mexico, Teotihuacan culture, ca. 3rd to 7th century CE. An intriguing seated figure depicting an abstract monkey, hand-carved from mottled white stone with beige inclusions. The figure sits with bent legs atop an integral platform, holds clasped hands just beneath the tapered chin, and hunches his shoulders. The bulbous head features a petite visage composed of bulging hemispherical eyes, a slender nose, pursed lips, and an enormous forehead. An old iron nail is adhered to the inside of the elbows, though its original intention is unknown. Size: 5.875" W x 8.6" H (14.9 cm x 21.8 cm).
