Lot 99A
Pre-Columbian, Central Mexico, Teotihuacan, ca. 3rd to 7th century CE. A hand-built stone head of an ambiguous deity. The base is stable and slightly concave, and the back is somewhat planar as if chipped away from a wall or column. Well-defined facial features such as parted lips, recessed eyes, rounded cheeks, and perky ears define the haunting visage, with a delineated brow line supporting a wide, crested headdress. A small divot is located just behind the crest, though its original purpose is unclear. Wonderful and nebulous! Size: 3.5" H (8.9 cm).
