Description:

Pre-Columbian, Valley of Mexico, Teotihuacan, ca. 150 to 650 CE. A charming hand-built pottery sculpture of a standing woman holding a vessel. Dressed in a floor-length skirt and collar necklace, the ancient figure presents a bare chest with risen breasts, square shoulders, a slim waist, wide hips, and tubular arms that bend at the elbows to hold a petite jar. Her huge, triangular head exhibits a calm visage composed of slender, slanted eyes, a sharp nose, a gentle smile, and a pointed chin, all flanked by a pair of ears fit with sizable, discoid earspools. A flat-topped headdress or coiffure tops the delightful figure. Size: 1" W x 3" H (2.5 cm x 7.6 cm); 3.5" H (8.9 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: ex-Adeon Gallery, Chicago, Il around 1975
