Description:

Classical world, Northern Italy, Etruria, Etruscan culture, ca. 4th century BCE. A beautiful wheel-thrown pottery alabastron made using the bucchero technique to create lustrous beige and light gray hues. The slender piriform vessel has a slightly bulged midsection, a tapered neck, and a flared rim, all atop a narrow, conical base. The alabastron is so named because early examples of this form were carved from solid alabaster. This vessel perhaps held perfumes or other less common liquids. Size: 1.375" W x 7.875" H (3.5 cm x 20 cm); 8.2" H (20.8 cm) on included custom stand.
