Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A lovely mold-shaped bottle formed from semi-translucent, pale green glass with a slightly concave base, a tall cylindrical body with a planar shoulder, a squat neck, and an in-folded discoid rim. Though the exterior surfaces are clouded by weathering film and earthen deposits, the interior is enveloped with fiery rainbow iridescence in sapphire, amethyst, emerald, citrine, and ruby hues. Typical Roman glass bottles exhibit either a spherical body with a projecting tubular neck or a tall rectangular form, so this cylindrical example is exciting and rare! Size: 3.1" W x 6.375" H (7.9 cm x 16.2 cm).

Provenance: ex-Davis collection, Houston, Texas, acquired before 2013 from various auction houses in London and New York
