Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A gorgeous and large glass cylindrical bottle with a wide trail handle bridging shoulder to neck, the body almost colorless with a pretty green hue. The glass is nearly perfect, an impressive example due to the size and superb condition! In antiquity the most highly valued glass was translucent and colorless, but achieving transparency was a challenging task, and Roman glass characteristically has a slight green or blue hue due to iron oxide impurities. Seeing the jar's contents through solid walls was practical and a novelty for ancient Romans! Size: 3.5" Diameter x 8" H (8.9 cm x 20.3 cm)
