Native American, Southwestern United States, Navajo, ca. 20th century. A hand carved kachina doll of painted in white and black with pink moccasins, dotted calf and arm covers. Perhaps an artistic Navajo representation of the white wolf or bear Kachina. In dances, these predators are often shown in conjunction with antelope or deer Kachinas. The Bear Kachina is known for its immense strength, believed to possess the ability to heal the sick, and the wolf kachina can ensure successful hunts. Size: 6" L x 8" W x 17" H (15.2 cm x 20.3 cm x 43.2 cm)
