Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. This is a large, heavy, hollow pottery figure of a standing woman with sturdy feet and legs. Her arms are out, palms up; her face is relatively large to her body size, with a heavy jaw and prominent nose. Her forehead is slanted in a way that suggests cranial modification or some standard of beauty that we do not currently hold. She is a West Mexican shaft tomb figurine, designed to speak to a culture whose major archaeological legacy has been their large tombs full of pottery figures. Size: 10.5" W x 15.1" H (26.7 cm x 38.4 cm)

Provenance: Ex Scollard collection, LA, California
