Description:

Classical Antiquities. Magna Graecia or Sicily, ca. 3rd to 2nd century BCE. A striking, finely molded terracotta ritual incense burner in the form of a youthful female bust. She wears a high polos headdress in the form of a fluted column upon her attractive visage, a face comprised of naturalistic features framed by a wavy, centrally parted coiffure. Her torso is draped in a himation, the cascading folds of fabric flowing over her breasts. Her headdress resolves in a bowl depression atop for offerings showing carbon deposits from ritual usage. Size: 8.75" W x 14.625" H (22.2 cm x 37.1 cm)

Provenance: from the estate of V.P., Linz, acquired between 1995 and 2005
