Description:

Ancient Greece, Athens, Attic, ca. late 6th to 5th century BCE. A finely-modeled, wheel-thrown pottery lekythos - a vessel used to store scented oils and perfumes - boasting areas of lustrous black glaze. The vessel has a slender piriform body atop a discoid foot, a plateaued shoulder which tapers to a narrow neck, a hemispherical rim, and an applied strap handle arching between neck and shoulder. The shoulder is decorated with two repeating registers of black-glazed frets, and two registers of Greek key motifs course around the upper and lower body. Size: 2.875" W x 8.25" H (7.3 cm x 21 cm).
