Description:

Classical World, Etruria (Northern Italy), Vulci, Etrusco Corinthian, ca. 625 to 575 BCE. An elegant as well as sizeable wine pitcher (olpe) of a classic form with a pear-shaped body sitting upon a petite foot with a slightly concave base, a tubular neck that dramatically flares to a wide mouth, and a strap handle joining rim to shoulder. The body is elegantly decorated with a register of stylized leaves in umber against a cream ground, red and white horizontal striations around the body below, a lower register with three clusters of umber leaves against a cream ground, cream S-shaped motifs to either side of the lower end of the handle, and a white rosette at the rim. Size: 6.375" W (handle to opposite end) x 9.5" H (16.2 cm x 24.1 cm)
