Description:

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A mold-formed faience ushabti of a tall size with fused legs standing atop an integral plinth. The figure crosses a pick and hoe atop the chest, and a seed bag is incised behind the left shoulder. The serene visage is accentuated with a plaited false beard and a striated wig, and 7 lines of hieroglyphic text are incised around the lower body. A nice example. Size: 1.6" W x 6.4" H (4.1 cm x 16.3 cm); 7.4" H (18.8 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Vero Beach, Florida, USA collection, purchased in the 1960s from an old English collection

  • Condition: Repaired from two large pieces across legs, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Abrasions and nicks to plinth, legs, body, and head, with softening to some finer details and hieroglyphs, and fading to glaze pigment. Nice remains of glaze pigment throughout.
