Description:

Far East, China, Song Dynasty, ca. 960 to 1100 CE. This glazed porcelain vase is a warm cream color, with swirling designs on the long neck. Glaze goes down to the foot, which is unglazed. Classic Song Dynasty ceramics are monochrome porcelain with clean, elegant forms. This vase is probably from the earlier part of the Song dynasty because by the end they had perfect the method of glazing so that the entire vase, including the foot, could be covered because in the kiln the vessels were placed on tiny supports called spurs.
