Description:

East Asia, China, Han Dynasty, ca. 206 BCE to 220 CE. A wheel made greyware granary jar, with deep incised lines at intervals around the body creating a simple and austere decoration. Vessels like this footed cylinder were placed inside of tombs, often holding offerings to help the deceased carry on in the afterlife. This granary likely held grains such as millet, barley, sesame, or wheat and a lid that resembled a storehouse roof may have capped this vessel originally to preserve the contents. Size: 7.5" Diameter x 14" H (19 cm x 35.6 cm)
