Description:

East Asia, China, Han Dynasty, ca. 206 to 220 CE. A large and impressive architectural mold-made pottery building of a storage granary from the Han Dynasty. Whimsical panda bears act as the supports, and the roof has a lightly curving peak and ridges as support beams. The glazed surface shifts from lime green to a darker green-blue hue, and a shimmering iridescence has formed throughout. Funerary ceramics such as this were inspired by traditional buildings used as storehouses - this granary likely held grains such as wheat and barley for the deceased to use in the afterlife. Size: 17.25" L x 9.75" W x 22.5" H (43.8 cm x 24.8 cm x 57.2 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report is available to the buyer upon request.
