Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast of Peru, Chancay culture, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A hand-built pottery female figure of sizable form called a cuchimilco - or "stargazer" - standing nude atop broad feet and delineated legs, and with arms raised at her shoulders. Swaths of black and red pigment accentuate several areas of the countenance while deep striations create her eye lids and mouth; her nostrils are impressed beneath her upturned nose. Size: 4.5" L x 9" W x 18" H (11.4 cm x 22.9 cm x 45.7 cm); 18.375" H (46.7 cm) on included custom stand.

  • Condition: Repairs to right foot, with resurfacing and overpainting along break lines. Abrasions and expected fading to pigment, with light earthen deposits, and losses to some toes, otherwise in great condition. Wonderful preservation to figural form given the size.
